Tuskegee Athletics Blog:

Wow, what a day for Tuskegee University athletics on Monday at SIAC Media Days. The day began like any other, sunny and hot, as the meetings took place. Then all the fun started …

We announced the partnership with HSRN (Heritage Sports Radio Network) to broadcasts three homes game this season from Cleve L. Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium, which will include games against Clark Atlanta (September 5), Winston-Salem State (September 19) and Miles (November 7 – homecoming). And then we broke the BIG NEWS of the day off the football field, the formation of the Tuskegee Sports Network. Through the network we will have all 10 regular season games broadcast on multiple platforms including WTLS 106.5 FM/1300 AM, Tallassee TV, Net AL, River Region Sports and the Tune-In app. With the formation of the network we will also have coaches and student-athletes highlights throughout the week on air during River Region Sports from 12 noon until 2 pm on WTLS 106.5 FM/1300 AM. Not only that, but there will be a website developed where all of the platforms to listen to will be available in one place for all of our fans and alumni.

The other two announcements we made from yesterday involved the SIAC naming their All-Conference teams in which Tuskegee tied for the most players combined on the two teams – nine – and the most First Team selections – five. The Golden Tigers were also picked to win the Western Division and play in the conference championship game to defend their SIAC Championship.

Throughout the day, head coach Willie Slater, defensive back Michael Robinson and quarterback Kevin Lacey made their rounds with the media; which included WSFA-TV 12, WAKA-TV 8 (Alabama News Network), River Region Sports, The Montgomery Advertiser, and WTLS among others from the River Region. They also made their rounds with the SIAC – SIAC audio, SIAC Digital Network and the SIAC Social Media Suite.

It was a great day to be involved with Tuskegee University athletics and marks the “unofficial” beginning to football season.

Just to let everyone know as well, we have a new volleyball coach beginning August 1 and we welcome Melissa Robinson to the Tuskegee family to help lead our volleyball program to new heights. During this time, we will be working on posters and media guides for all fall sports to put online; as well as the GameDay Magazine and game notes for the season opener.

Check back regularly for updates, I will try and get back to regular posting this week. If not, please know there is something keeping me from doing so with the development of new ideas for Tuskegee University athletics.

Until next time, when I promise, we will go back to “Taking A Look Back…”
